Coventry will be looking to edge closer to promotion with a positive result against Southampton, but which players will miss out through injury?

Coventry City will be looking to move 11 points clear at the top of the Championship table, as they take on Southampton in the early kick-off on Saturday.

The Sky Blues have been hugely impressive for much of this year's league campaign, and moved further clear at the summit with a comfortable 3-0 win over Preston North End in midweek.

Frank Lampard's side have now won their last six league matches, and will head into their clash with Southampton full of confidence of maintaining their strong run of form on home soil.

They're set to take on a Southampton side that are in the mix to challenge for a top-six finish themselves. The Saints are sat seventh in the table, and just three points adrift of the play-off places heading into the weekend - that's increased to six following Wrexham's Friday night win.

The Saints are sweating on the fitness of Léo Scienza, who limped off in their recent 1-1 draw with West Brom, and it remains to be seen as to whether he'll feature against the Blues.

Both Coventry and Southampton have some notable absentees ahead of the clash at the Coventry Building Society Arena, and we'll take you through updates on each of them.

Bobby Thomas

The Sky Blues centre-back has been a regular in the starting XI this term, having made 30 appearances in all competitions in the 2025/26 season.

Thomas picked up a calf injury in the win over Stoke City, and despite completing the full game, Lampard revealed that the 25-year-old would miss their next three games, with the first of those being the win over Preston on Wednesday evening.

Jack Rudoni

Rudoni has been a key player for Coventry in their impressive league campaign to date, with the midfielder chipping in with five goals and six assists for the Sky Blues this term.

However, he won't be involved against Southampton this weekend, as he picked up a calf injury in the win over Stoke City last weekend, with Frank Lampard issuing an update on the midfielder.

"Rudi has done the same as Bobby and it’s the same timescale."

Rudoni was previously linked with a move to Southampton, although a move failed to materialise for one reason or another, and Lampard will be hoping that he can keep hold of the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.

Mads Roerslev

The Southampton full-back has made just nine appearances for the Saints since signing from Brentford, in what has been a frustrating season for the defender.

Roerslev underwent Achilles surgery, and Southampton boss, Tonda Eckert revealed that the former Brentford man could miss the rest of the season as he recovers.

Welington

The Brazilian has been in and out of the Southampton team for much of this season, but hasn't been in the matchday squad for the last four league matches.

He also missed Southampton's win over Fulham in the FA Cup recently, so it seems unlikely that he'll be rushed back into action after a muscle injury, despite Eckert previously revealing that he was a couple of weeks away from returning back in February.

"Welly is going to still take a couple more weeks with a muscle injury, not the best [news] but hopefully it won't take too long."

Jay Robinson

Robinson has caught the eye with some strong performances for the Saints this season, but he has missed the last seven matches for Southampton through injury.

Tonda Eckert had stated that the winger was nearing a return, although his continued absence will raise some doubts about his availability heading into the clash with Coventry on Saturday.

Alex McCarthy

The experienced shot-stopper is another player that has missed Southampton's last seven matches, and it remains to be seen as to whether he'll return for the game with the Sky Blues.

McCarthy has been Southampton's second-choice goalkeeper for much of the 2025/26 season, and had wrist surgery, which has kept him out of action recently.
