FLW takes a look at each player who is set to miss Wolverhampton Wanderers' clash at Molineux with Stoke City at the weekend

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Stoke City in the third round of the 2026/27 Championship season, with differing moods from either set of fanbases.

For the first time in nearly six years, Wolves and Stoke meet in a competitive football match again, with the Potters prevailing 1-0 in their most recent encounter, as Jacob Brown’s only goal sent Michael O’Neill’s side through to the third round of the League Cup.

You’d have to go back to April 2012 for when these two historic sides met most recently in the league, as Stoke once again took home the victory, defeating the Old Gold 2-1 at the then-dubbed Britannia Stadium, back when both sides were in the Premier League.

Though Stoke have won five of the last six encounters between the two, Wolves head into this one as undeniable favourites, having recorded three wins in four games thus far, only slipping to a 2-2 draw at home to Blackburn Rovers in the opening game of the Championship season.

Stoke, on the other hand, have lost all three of their most recent games, remaining one of four teams yet to pick up a point in the league after losses to Swansea City and Southampton, whilst being dumped out of the League Cup on penalties at the hands of Hull City.

It’s shaping up to be an interesting encounter already, as Cesar Peixoto will hope to pile the misery on Mark Robins, with FLW taking a look at all six players set to miss this affair.

Kieran Trippier

Kieran Trippier became Wolves’ first signing of the summer following his release from Newcastle United, penning a two-year deal in the Black Country.

However, after suffering a knee injury in Wolves' draw with Blackburn on the opening day, the 54-capped former England international is set to face up to six weeks on the sidelines, taking his time in the treatment room beyond the first international break.

The 35-year-old’s experience and quality at the back will be a huge miss for Wolves, as the former Tottenham Hotspur and Atlético Madrid right-back will play no part in this clash.

Yerson Mosquera

Like Trippier, Colombian centre-back Yerson Mosquera picked up an injury in the Old Gold’s equal encounter with Blackburn on the opening day, and is set to join the Englishman in the treatment room for up to six weeks.

The 25-year-old will be a big miss for Wolves at the back, as Nasser Djiga, Santiago Bueno, and Toti Gomes prepare to step in if required.

Rafiki Said

Peixoto’s first addition of the summer, Rafiki Said, suffered an MCL injury during pre-season, ruling the Comoros international out of action for a while, as Wolves fans await to see his competitive debut.

Signed for around £7.7 million from Belgian side Standard Liege, Said has previously shone in spells in France with Nîmes and Troyes before excelling in Belgium, but will not play any part in Wolves’ home encounter with Stoke this weekend, as he continues his road to recovery.

Aaron Cresswell

Aaron Cresswell joined Stoke on a free transfer last summer following his release from West Ham United, and made 25 Championship appearances for the Potters in his first year at the club, with his minutes limited by injury, as well as Eric Bocat providing strong competition.

The 36-year-old penned a one-year extension this summer, but suffered a knee injury during pre-season, ruling him out for the foreseeable future, as Bocat looks set to retain his spot at left-back for this one.

Ato Ampah

Ato Ampah joined Stoke from Chelsea in January 2026 for around £3 million, though even the biggest Potters supporters in the world could be forgiven for forgetting his existence.

The 20-year-old has made just one senior appearance in his entire career, coming in the Conference League for Chelsea, and since arriving in the Potteries almost eight months ago, he has been out injured the majority of the time and yet to make his debut for the club.

Now building himself up for first-team contention, Stoke fans will be hoping to catch a glimpse of him soon, but this Wolves fixture may prove to be too soon for the winger.

Junior Tchamadeu

Right-back Junior Tchamadeu limped off in Stoke’s pre-season against Crewe Alexandra and has not been available since.

The Cameroonian missed a large portion of the second half of last season after injury away with his nation at AFCON, and whilst he has managed to get on the pitch since, his appearances have been sporadic.

The 22-year-old is on his way back to full fitness, but this fixture may be one too soon for the full-back.
