The seven Blackburn Rovers players that have expiring contracts this season.
Blackburn Rovers saw a number of players leave this summer following the expiration of their contract.
The likes of Andreas Weimann, Danny Batth, Dilan Markanday and Jalil Saadi all departed Ewood Park for nothing.
Most notably, Tyrhys Dolan also left the club on a free transfer after a protracted saga surrounding his future with the Lancashire outfit, which ultimately led to him signing for Espanyol.
The Championship side will now have to contemplate another set of contracts ahead of next year, as they look to avoid a repeat of the situation surrounding the forward.
Here we look at the seven players that could leave Blackburn as a free agent in 2026 - as per Transfermarkt.
Lewis Travis’ future at Blackburn has been the subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer due to his expiring contract next summer.
It was reported by the Lancashire Telegraph earlier this month that the midfielder has asked to depart Ewood Park amid interest from Derby County.
But if he stays beyond the 1 September deadline, then Rovers are at risk of losing him for nothing in 2026 when his current deal lapses.
Dominic Hyam’s future is also now up in the air as we approach the final week of the transfer window.
According to the Lancashire Telegraph, the club have been unable to agree new terms to extend his stay at Ewood Park beyond next summer.
This has led to uncertainty over his time remaining in Valerien Ismael’s side, with Hyam turning down a deal that keeps him with Rovers until 2027 but on the same salary he currently earns.
Sondre Tronstad has become a key figure for Blackburn, with the midfielder now in his third season for the club.
The 29-year-old made 74 appearances in the league across his first two campaigns, and is likely to feature whenever fit under Ismael this year as well.
However, with his contract set to expire in June 2026, there is some uncertainty over his future as we approach the 1 September deadline.
Blackburn should be keen to renew his contract as quickly as possible to avoid this dragging on to avoid anther Dolan situation, of which the club will be very keen not to find themselves in repeat situation again anytime soon.
Ryan Hedges had his contract extended by 12 months last summer, which kept him from leaving Blackburn for nothing in 2025.
That option in his deal was triggered by the club, but they now have to negotiate terms on an entirely new contract if they want him to stay beyond the end of this season.
It was reported that the 30-year-old is looking to renew his deal for more than just one year, but it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached with Rovers before next summer.
Adam Forshaw extended his stay with Blackburn in June, keeping him at the club for one more year.
He was a regular presence in the side in the second half of last season after his arrival from Plymouth Argyle in the winter window, albeit he was mostly used as a substitute.
The 33-year-old’s future with Ismael’s side will likely be determined at the end of the current campaign, where it will be clear whether or not he is a player worth keeping around or not.
Igor Tyjon is only on the fringe of the first team squad, having earned just a couple of appearances at senior level so far in his career.
The forward was reportedly offered a new deal by the club earlier this summer amid interest from Arsenal, but he could leave as a free agent next summer unless an agreement is reached.
Kristi Montgomery signed a new contract with Blackburn in February 2024, and has since earned a couple of chances in the first team squad after impressing at underage level.
But that contract is now set to expire next summer, albeit the Lancashire outfit do hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
