All these players may be heading for pastures new next summer

Norwich City have enjoyed a relatively decent start to their first Championship campaign under Liam Manning.

They were unlucky to lose out to Millwall in a tight match on the opening day of the season, before winning at Watford in the First Round of the Carabao Cup.

They then went to Portsmouth last weekend, a place where a lot of sides struggled last season, and earned an impressive 2-1 victory, thanks to goals from Harry Darling and Joshua Sargent.

Keeping hold of the USMNT striker has been one of the main topics of conversation on the transfer front at Carrow Road this summer but, before you know it, attention will soon be shifted to the players that City will be looking to tie down to a new contract throughout the season in order to avoid losing them for free next summer.

So, FLW have taken a look at the six players who see their contracts at Norwich end next summer.

By far one of the best players on his day in the City team, Norwich may well still lose the Chilean international in this window - with, like Sargent, there being the growing feeling that both of these players are too good to be playing for a side who are only really battling to get into the play-offs in the second tier.

Only 25, the Chilean defensive midfielder has been instrumental in the Canaries' engine room since arriving from Universidad Catolica in his homeland in the summer of 2022 - making 119 appearances and scoring 12 goals, most of which have been screamers, during his time in Norfolk.

This is on top of his 31 games and five goals for Chile at international level, which further exhibits how it would be a travesty for City to lose someone of his calibre on a free transfer.

The Ghanaian international joined City on a one-year deal earlier this summer, and he arrived at Carrow Road with vast English league experience, having played 150 games for Leicester City and 247 times for Crystal Palace.

A loan spell at Celtic towards the back end of last season was decent - and he has already featured regularly for the Canaries after signing upon his release from Selhurst Park this summer.

Initially brought in as an emergency signing, the Dane has been one of City's most important players since signing in October 2024, scoring five goals in 33 games for the Canaries in all competitions.

The ex-AFC Bournemouth and Brentford man wasn't in the squad for the game against Millwall and was hooked at half-time at Fratton Park, so it remains to be seen exactly how much of Liam Manning's plans he remains in, following Norwich triggering an extension option in his contract earlier this summer.

The Irish international joined the Canaries on a three-year deal from Fulham in the summer of 2023 and has quickly established himself as a vital defender at centre-back under a host of different managers, having made 87 appearances for the club.

However, he is (in footballing terms) in the latter stages of his career now at 33, so it remains to be seen whether Manning will want to keep him around - especially as he hasn't made the squad for the first two Championship games of the season.

The 33-year-old Scottish international's contract is a bit of a misleading one, as the club do hold the option of a further year. However, he's missed the first couple of games this season after undergoing minor ankle surgery, and therefore injuries may be the only concern for the modern-day club legend, who has scored 13 goals in 265 games for City since joining them from Aberdeen in the summer of 2018.

The 22-year-old Irish talent is certainly mooted to have a big future by those internally at Carrow Road, but he has struggled for consistent minutes at City. In fact, he has never actually scored for the Canaries, having netted his first (and only) senior goal to date in a loan spell at Northampton Town in the second half of the 2023/24 season following a goalless spell at Derby County throughout the 2022/23 season.

The Welsh goalkeeper, despite being 24, spent the majority of last season playing for Norwich City's U21 side in Premier League 2. The academy graduate and youth international for his county has had loan spells with Swindon Town and Maidstone United in the past, but is behind both Vladan Kovacevic and Daniel Grimshaw in the pecking order now.
