After the Championship returned to action next weekend, clubs across the division will be hoping to build momentum between now and the first international break of the season, which comes next month.

West Bromwich Albion and Burnley are two sides who started their respective league campaigns with mixed fortunes, and they will round off the second of 46 matchweeks in the second tier when they meet at The Hawthorns at 12PM on Sunday afternoon.

Albion began James Morrison's first Championship match in permanent charge with a controversial 2-1 success against Norwich City at Carrow Road, with Aune Heggebo and Jimmy-Jay Morgan getting on the scoresheet, whilst Nicky Hayen's divisional bow saw Burnley come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with fellow newly-relegated side, West Ham United, through Zian Flemming's brace inside the dying minutes of the contest.

Matches between the West Midlands and East Lancashire sides are often close, and whilst this is a first since a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor in March 2025, Football League World have looked at the seven players who look set to have no involvement from the starting eleven or the bench this weekend.

West Bromwich Albion

Tammer Bany

The only West Brom player set to play no part in Sunday's clash through injury is Danish attacker, Tammer Bany, who has had a continuously frustrating spell in B71 since his £3.3m switch from Randers in February 2025.

Bany, 23, has made just eight competitive appearances for Albion since then, with three of his four Championship appearances last season coming in the final weeks after returning from a serious thigh injury.

However, in the 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in May, he suffered a hamstring issue which has impacted his pre-season, and after missing out at Norwich last weekend, is expected to not be involved again after Morrison revealed he is following an individual plan.

Aune Heggebo

However, it was confirmed on Thursday night that, after his controversial 75th-minute opener against Norwich, the aforementioned Heggebo would receive a two-match suspension.

The Norwegian striker was the subject of an unsuccessful charge against misconduct, with the FA stating the 25-year-old did “successfully deceive a Match Official by handling the ball in a direct successful attempt to score a goal”, which breaches the governing body's rule E3.1.

Albion have produced a lengthy statement on the punishment, which is said to be the first of its kind in English football, and it means Heggebo will also not be involved in next Tuesday's EFL Cup trip to Newcastle United.

Burnley

Jordan Beyer

Jordan Beyer's time at Burnley has been one of immense frustration, as, after playing 35 times in the promotion-winning season of 2022/23, hasn't been involved in a competitive game since December 2023 due to serious knee issues.

As such, the 26-year-old has had no involvement in pre-season under Hayen, and it remains to be seen how longer he remains at the club.

Josh Cullen

Josh Cullen was a key cog of the Clarets side which won promotion under Scott Parker two seasons ago, but is currently recovering from a serious ACL injury of his own, which was sustained last December against Everton.

The Republic of Ireland international is set to be sidelined until, at least, October, as a result.

Jaydon Banel

Jaydon Banel was set for a potentially strong breakthrough season with Burnley after spending the second half of last season on loan with Derby County, where he scored three goals in 14 Championship matches.

However, whilst the injury remains unspecified, the 21-year-old Dutchman is set for "many weeks" on the sidelines, as was revealed by Burnley's newly-appointed head coach ahead of last weekend's season opener.

Enock Agyei

Hayen also confirmed that Burnley would be without the services of Belgian winger, Enock Agyei, who is yet to make a major breakthrough into the first-team fold at Turf Moor, having made just three prior competitive appearances.

But, like Banel, the extent of the 21-year-old's current layoff is yet to be specified.

Ashley Barnes

Ashley Barnes signed his latest contract extension in BB10 on June 30th, but has been out of action since April after sustaining a muscle problem.

The 36-year-old only made 11 appearances and scored twice last season after returning from Norwich City in January 2025, and also missed last week's season opener.
