Decisions must be made over the futures of a number of players at Ewood Park

Blackburn Rovers have certainly looked to be proactive when it comes to the contract situations of their players in recent years.

Previously, key men such as Ben Brereton-Diaz, Darragh Lenihan, Ryan Nyambe and Joe Rothwell have all left Ewood Park on free transfer at the end of their deals, losing the club plenty of money.

As a result, plenty of new contract have been handed out since then, in an attempt to avoid a repeat of that situation with other individuals.

Even so, there a number of players whose contracts with the Lancashire outfit expire at the end of this season, meaning they could walk away from the club for nothing in the summer of 2025.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at the nine Blackburn Rovers players who as things stand, will become free agents when this campaign comes to an end, right here.

Dominic Hyam

Joining from Coventry City in the summer of 2022, Dominic Hyam won the club's Player of the Year award during his debut campaign at Ewood Park.

The centre-back also wore the captain's armband last season while Lewis Travis was on loan at Ipswich Town, and he is closing in on 100 appearances for the club.

Hyam's contract is due to expire this summer, but Blackburn do reportedly have the option to extend it by a further 12 months, and that is surely the least they will be looking to do.

Kyle McFadzean

Another to join from Coventry, Kyle McFadzean arrived in Lancashire back in January on a six-month contract, during which time he proved an excellent addition.

That deal was then extended by a further 12 months over the summer, meaning he is now set to be out of contract at the end of this season.

However, his only appearances during the current campaign have been in the Carabao Cup, and at 37-years-old, he may soon have a big call to make on his future with Rovers.

Danny Batth

Danny Batth joined Blackburn this summer, following the expiration of his contract with another Championship side in the form of Norwich.

He has been a regular in the starting XI since the last international break, excelling in September before a bit of a dip in form, the 34-year-old perhaps starting to feel the demands of the schedule.

Having signed one-year deal at Ewood Park, his form over the rest of the campaign may determine what the future holds for Batth beyond this summer.

Andreas Weimann

Another summer signing, Weimann also joined Blackburn on a free transfer after leaving another Championship club, in the form of Bristol City.

The Austrian attacker has also endeared himself to the Rovers faithful with several goals, most notably his stunning strike in the derby draw at Burnley.

Again, the 33-year-old signed a one-year deal in Lancashire back in the summer, meaning a decision will have to be made on his future as well, come the end of the campaign.

Tyrhys Dolan

Blackburn triggered a 12-month extension in Tyrhys Dolan's deal at the end of last season, to prevent him leaving the club this summer.

As a result, the attacker could walk away in the summer of 2025, although 22-years-old, the club would still be entitled to some compensation for him.

Having joined back in 2020, Dolan has made well over 150 appearances in all competitions for the club, and it will be interesting to see how many more he adds to that tally.

Ryan Hedges

Signed from Aberdeen in January 2022, Ryan Hedges has had something of a mixed time of things at Ewood Park to date.

As well as being hampered by injuries, the Welshman has shown flashes of spectacular talent, combined with a relative lack of a consistent end product.

He is into the final year of his current deal with Blackburn, although there is an option to extend that by a further 12 months, with whether or not they do that an intriguing decision for the club to make.

Arnor Sigurdsson

Initially, Arnor Sigurdsson joined Rovers in the summer of 2023 after freezing his contract with CSKA Moscow by a year.

He then made his move to Ewood Park permanent in December last year, but only on a deal until the summer of 2025.

The 25-year-old is another who has been plagued by injury and dogged by inconsistency - with eight goals in 39 games - and is not a regular starter this season, leaving questions over his future.

Dilan Markanday

Having joined from Tottenham in January 2022 in search of more regular first-team opportunities, Dilan Markanday has yet to really secure those with Blackburn.

He is also now into the final year of his contract, albeit the wiger is another whose deal still includes the option to extend by a further 12 months.

Currently, Markanday is enjoying a loan spell with Chesterfield - scoring three goals and providing one assist in eight League Two games - and his form could determine if that option is taken up.

Jack Vale

After coming through the academy ranks with a prolific record, Jack Vale has struggled for goals at senior level for Rovers.

He was therefore, loaned out to Motherwell in the summer, after a temporary stint with the Scottish Premiership club last season, but has since returned to his parent club due to his injury.
