The injury and suspension news ahead of Coventry City's trip to QPR

QPR and Coventry City, two sides looking to bounce back from disappointing defeats last time out, are set to go head-to-head on Saturday at Loftus Road.

Not only will Julien Stephan's side be eager to right the wrongs from their dramatic defeat against Wrexham last weekend, where they let a 2-1 lead spiral into a 3-2 defeat in second-half stoppage time, but they'll want to put in a good account for themselves this time round against Coventry.

Indeed, the Sky Blues more than put QPR to the sword at the CBS Arena back in August, putting seven past the Hoops in a ruthless display.

Since then, though, both sides have been on different paths. QPR haven't looked that lost at sea since the defeat, with a strong end to the summer transfer window and a little more time for Julien Stephan to recognise his best 11, resulting in the Hoops being a strong mid-table side.

Meanwhile, Coventry used that 7-1 win to kickstart their dominance in the opening months of the campaign, a dominance that has diminished massively since the start of December. The side that many were claiming to be the champions elect in November is now just three points clear at the top, and is in desperate need of a return to winning ways.

It's all setting up to be an entertaining affair at Loftus Road, but here are the nine players who are set to miss out.

Amadou Mbengue

Starting with the hosts, QPR will be without Amadou Mbengue against Coventry, after the 24-year-old saw red in the final stages of the Hoops' recent defeat against Wrexham.

The former Reading man has been an important asset for Julien Stephan this season, but the French boss will have to make do without him this weekend.

Justin Obikwu

Justin Obikwu, who just signed for QPR from this weekend's opponents less than a fortnight ago, was unable to make his debut for the club against Wrexham due to injury.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Julien Stephan stated that the club needs to speak to the medical staff to know the extent of the injury, but admitted that he had a "little issue" ahead of the game last weekend.

Therefore, the 21-year-old, who never played for Coventry, is unlikely to face them this Saturday.

Ilias Chair

Ilias Chair has missed the majority of the campaign so far through two separate knocks, with the current issue seeing him miss nearly two months of action.

However, in some good news across the week, Julien Stephan revealed that the Moroccan should be back in training next week.

Having started seven straight league games before this recent setback, there'll be hope he can remain fit for the rest of the season, as he's clearly an important asset to the QPR boss.

Jake Clarke-Salter

Julien Stephan has revealed that Ronnie Edwards should be available for selection for the first time since making a £4.5 million move from Southampton three weeks ago, which is good news, given that Jake Clarke-Salter remains out.

2025 was a year plagued with injury for the 28-year-old, and that's bleeding into the start of 2026, with the centre-back currently nursing an ankle injury.

Jonathan Varane

Influential midfielder Jonathan Varane has been missing for the last three Championship games due to a knee strain.

While QPR's January injury report stated that there'd be hopes he could return later this month, there has been no indication in Julien Stephan's recent press conferences that a return would be in the works for the visit of Coventry.

Kwame Poku

It's been a stop-start opening to his QPR career for Kwame Poku, who has managed just eight Championship appearances due to various hamstring injuries.

The 24-year-old had managed five consecutive league appearances for the Hoops before his recent layoff, which has, so far, seen him miss three games.

And after a hamstring issue kept him out for three months during his final campaign at Peterborough United last season, there'll be some real worries that the winger may not be able to shake this current issue he's developed.

Rumarn Burrell

And the longest injury layoff currently in the QPR camp is top-scorer Rumarn Burrell, who isn't expected to return until March after suffering an awkward landing midway through the Sheffield Wednesday game at the start of the month.

The Jamaican frontman has netted 10 times already this season, including that game against the Owls, and the Hoops have scored just twice in the three league games he's missed thus far.

The sooner Burrell can return, the better for QPR. But for now, Julien Stephan will be hoping that he has enough in his arsenal to attack Coventry this weekend.

Brandon Thomas-Asante

It wasn't Coventry's day on Monday at Norwich City, and to make matters worse, utility forward Brandon Thomas-Asante will be missing for the next three games, starting with QPR, after being retrospectively banned for violent conduct.

The 27-year-old has been electric for Frank Lampard thus far, scoring 10 in 20 Championship outings, but after lashing out at Pelle Mattsson off the ball at Carrow Road, he won't be available until the trip to his former side, West Brom, on February 21.

Oliver Dovin

With Jack Rudoni expected to be back in action, and no other injury concerns sounded by Frank Lampard in his pre-match press conference, goalkeeper Oliver Dovin remains the only injury doubt for the Sky Blues.

Dovin has been absent for the last 10 months with an ACL injury, and in the most recent update regarding his return, Lampard stated a fortnight ago that he doesn't want to put a specific return date on the 23-year-old's recovery.

Carl Rushworth has deputised well in his absence, so his injury hasn't impacted the side too much, but those at the CBS Arena will be hoping that the Swedish shot-stopper will be back soon.
