Middlesbrough have confirmed the arrival of ‘highly-regarded’ goalkeeper Radek Vitek from Manchester United this morning.

The deal is worth an initial £7 million, which could rise to £14m if performance-based add-ons are achieved.

Radek Vitek completes Middlesbrough move

To make the terms sweeter for United, a 35 per cent sell-on clause has been included, as well as matching rights and a buy-back option.

Boro kick off their 2026/2027 Championship campaign next Saturday with a home encounter against Lincoln City.

Vitek was keen to complete a move elsewhere in order to continue being the No.1 ‘keeper between the sticks, having done so throughout his season-long loan spell with Bristol City last term.

However, he had accepted that he wouldn’t be able to fulfil the goal at Old Trafford – at least not in the short-term, anyway.

Senne Lammens came in to make the role his own on deadline day last summer, and impressed so much throughout his maiden year that he was named the Barclays Transfer of the Season.

Altay Bayindir bids farewell to United

Elsewhere in the goalkeeping department, Altay Bayindir joined Celta Vigo on loan yesterday.

United had already facilitated the addition of veteran Karl Darlow earlier in the window, so Bayindir would’ve been aware that he was likely to be demoted to third-choice shot-stopper.

He issued a message to the Red Devils faithful on social media, saying: “Thank you for every chant, every message and every moment we have shared. Your support means a lot to me, and I’ll carry it with me throughout this next chapter of my life.

“I’ll miss Old Trafford, but this is not goodbye. Wishing a successful season to everyone at the club; my heart and support will always be with you. See you soon, Reds!”

There is an option for the Spanish outfit to make his move permanent for £3.5m at the end of the season, and the 28-year-old’s departure does free up the No.1 shirt for the coming year, should Lammens wish to take it.

Back in July, Andre Onana also rejoined Trabzonspor, where he’ll now be linking up with Mohamed Salah following his shock switch to Turkey this week.
