Derby County owner David Clowes has already signed off on a budget, which means the club should not be impacted by the failed takeover by Lion Sport.

In a huge surprising twist, the Rams announced on Monday evening that the proposed takeover by Lion Sport, which was run by the Saudi businessman, had not gone through, even though it had been approved by the EFL and Independent Football Regulator.

It has since been claimed that the development came as a major shock to Derby, and, naturally, many fans wondered how it would change their transfer plans.

Therefore, there were fears about where Derby stand now, especially as there is less than a month left in the window.

But, in a positive update, Telegraph reporter John Percy has revealed that nothing has essentially changed, as he explains how Clowes has already put a budget in place, which the club will continue to work within.

According to Percy, Derby intend to plough on with their business and the budget was already signed off by Clowes, with the Rams chief having provided the funds to seal high-profile returns for both Bobby Clark and Sammie Szmodics.

Derby have done some decent business already during this window, so it’s not like they are in a dire situation as they were waiting for the investment to happen.

Obviously, in an ideal world, the fresh investment would’ve arrived, but this shows that the deal not going through hasn’t ruined the Rams’ transfer plans.

So, as outlined above, it’s just a case of carrying on as normal, and the progress that Derby have made in the past few years is proof that the current regime do know what they’re doing!

That means there won’t be major concern about the direction Derby are heading under Clowes, who has always done as much as he could to back Eustace, and there’s no reason to suggest that will stop now.

With Derby having just missed out on the play-offs on the final day of last season, there is a lot of quality in Eustace’s squad, but, given the standard of opposition at the top end of the division, they could do with making a few more additions.

The deals to bring Bobby Clark and Sammie Szmodics in particular look like smart signings, and the fans will hope that players of a similar level can arrive in the coming weeks.

Ultimately, even if it’s not the outcome that many connected to Derby wanted, they do have clarity on the takeover now, and they will hope a productive end to the window will leave Eustace’s squad in good shape to push for promotion once again.

Additional funds from Alalshikh certainly would've been welcomed, but the truth is that Derby are already in an attractive position both on and off-the-pitch and are no longer blighted by financial issues.

Indeed, Clowes has armed Eustace with strong backing in recent windows, which has been evident throughout the summer and was proved with the arrivals of Patrick Agyemang and Max Johnston this time last year.

They were hardly reliant on an impending cash injection anyway, and Clowes will need to continue backing Eustace in the remainder of the window if Derby are to compete for promotion in the upcoming campaign.
