Today, the Nación Rojiblanca is celebrating! We honor the 56th birthday of Camilo Romero, a footballer who built his story with Guadalajara through character, hard work, and a deep love for the jersey. Developed in the Cantera Rojiblanca, ‘Chavalón’ became an important figure for the team in the 1990s, being part of the squad that won the Verano 1997 title. That’s why today we revisit his journey with the club he loves.

Camilo began his football story in Talpita, the neighborhood where his passion for the game was born and where he took his first steps after playing for amateur teams. From a young age, he showed a unique determination, driven by the dream of becoming a professional.

A dream built on sacrifice

His path was not easy. In order to train, he even stopped attending school to make it to practice. He looked for any way to get closer to his goal: collecting copper from radios or washing cars to earn money and travel to the Chivas academy in the Florencia neighborhood. That effort shaped the character that would define his entire career.

The decision that shaped his story

His talent earned him opportunities with clubs like Atlas and Tecos, but when it was time to choose, he didn’t hesitate: he stayed with Chivas, the team of his dreams. That’s how his journey in the Cantera Rojiblanca began at a young age, determined to make his way at the club he had always wanted to represent.

Development and evolution on the field

His growth was rapid. At 15, he had the chance to debut in a Third Division team, where he began to stand out under the guidance of Efraín Flores. During that stage, he underwent a key transformation in his career, transitioning from a winger to a fullback, the position where he found his place on the field.

Later, he continued his development with teams like Alteños de Tepatitlán, where he strengthened his defensive profile. Upon returning to Guadalajara, he was already playing as a fullback and even as a center-back, showing greater maturity in his game.

The leap to the First Team

His consistency led him to the next step. He was integrated into First Team training, where he shared the field and competed with key figures of the club. In that high-demand environment, he began carving out his place, showing the personality needed to fight for a spot among established players.

The day he fulfilled his promise

His First Division debut came in the 1989-90 season, a moment that changed his life. After achieving his dream, Camilo walked back to his neighborhood in Talpita and entered a church to give thanks. There, in silence, he fulfilled the promise he had made to his mother: to play for Chivas.

Champion and Rojiblanco legacy

His effort paid off as he became part of the squad that won the Verano 1997 title, establishing himself as an important piece of a team that left its mark in Rojiblanco history and secured the tenth star for Guadalajara.

Camilo Romero left behind a legacy built on sacrifice, identity, and love for the jersey—values that made him a representative figure of Guadalajara and an example for future generations of the Cantera Rojiblanca.

That’s why today, the entire Nación Chiva wishes you: Happy Birthday, Camilo!
