Whenever a week begins with Chivas Femenil set to play at home, the excitement rises—and even more so when the most recent meeting at the Fortaleza Rojiblanca set the bar sky-high.
This Sunday, Matchday 5 of the Apertura 2026 brings another showdown between Guadalajara and Pumas. The matchup promises plenty on every front, but it’s impossible not to think back to the last edition at the Fortaleza Rojiblanca.
For that, we go back to the AP25 and Matchday 14. The Rebaño arrived with four straight wins, while Pumas were looking to secure a playoff spot. Although the first half was evenly contested, with Guadalajara having more of the control, the Mexico City side capitalized on a couple of key opportunities to take a 2-0 lead.
It was clear: Chivas Femenil had to react after halftime, looking to score as quickly as possible while drawing energy from the substitutions off the bench. What happened next was something even the best fortune teller could never have predicted.
Joseline Montoya and Viridiana Salazar came on with the objective of adding more verticality from the wings and giving the Chiverío a much more attacking presence. The pressure eventually paid off. Within just two minutes, Guadalajara had leveled the match: Denise Castro pulled one back in the 65th minute with a precise header inside the box, and then, in the 67th, she scored again with an unstoppable volley that had Chivahermanos jumping out of their seats.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. In an unfortunate sequence, Casandra Montero was unable to properly clear Ribeiro’s shot in the 73rd minute, allowing Pumas to retake the lead at 3-2. But that only brought out Guadalajara’s strength and fighting spirit.
With the same determination she had shown while chasing the first two goals, ‘Viri’ produced an acrobatic finish out of nowhere in the 76th minute to level the match once again—and stir up a crowd that wanted more.
The Rojiblancas pinned their opponents deep in their own half, attacking wave after wave, with the feeling that a fourth goal was only a matter of time. Then, as stoppage time was winding down, the player who simply cannot be missing stepped up: amid a series of rebounds and flick-ons inside the box, Alicia Cervantes reacted at exactly the right moment and headed the ball home from close range, sending the Casa de los Mexicanos into absolute delirium.
Expectations are sky-high for this weekend. We all know what Chivas Femenil are capable of—and when you add this unforgettable precedent, we can expect a performance worthy of the occasion.
