Luis Enrique's side can become only the second team to defend the trophy in the Champions League era, while only five clubs have reached successive finals this century.

Valencia — 2000 & 2001

Valencia endured successive heartbreaks at the turn of the century, after losing consecutive Champions League finals. The Spanish side faced Real Madrid in the first-ever same country final in 2000, but lost 3-0 in Paris.

Valencia had finished above Real Madrid in La Liga, but froze on the big stage as goals from Fernando Morientes, Steve McManaman and Raul sealed success for the capital club.

A year later, Hector Cuper's team returned to the decider. However, it was more misery for Valencia, who were beaten by Bayern Munich on penalties.

Manchester United — 2008 & 2009

Manchester United came out on top in the first-ever all-English Champions League final in 2008. After a tight final against Chelsea ended all square after extra-time, the Red Devils won on penalties in Moscow.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side returned to the Champions League final the following season, though hopes of defending their title were dashed in Rome. Goals from Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi earned Barcelona a 2-0 win, as the Spaniards outclassed the holders.

Real Madrid — 2016, 2017 & 2018

Real Madrid became the first team to defend the trophy in the Champions League era, as part of an incredible three-peat under Zinedine Zidane.

The Spaniards beat rivals Atletico Madrid on penalties in the 2016 decider, before an emphatic 4-1 win over Juventus in Cardiff in 2017. Real Madrid made it a hat-trick of Champions League wins by beatingLiverpool in 2018, courtesy of Gareth Bale's brilliant brace.

Liverpool — 2018 & 2019

Liverpool reached back-to-back finals in 2018, and atoned for that aforementioned loss to Real Madrid. That first final ended in disaster as Loris Karius made two calamitous mistakes in Kyiv, but the Reds returned with renewed intent in 2019.

An early Mohamed Salah spot-kick and Divock Origi's late goal sealed a 2-0 win over Spurs, and Liverpool's sixth Champions League title.

Paris Saint-Germain — 2025 & 2026

Paris Saint-Germain secured their maiden Champions League crown last season after a destructive performance against Inter Milan.

Luis Enrique's side ran riot to claim a 5-0 win, a record scoreline in a Champions League final. PSG have overcome a slow start to their defence to reach a second straight decider, beating Bayern Munich in an epic semi-final. Arsenal await in a fantastic final for the neutrals.
