NWSL returned to our screens Saturday evening with two big games. Here is what went down in Portland and Orlando.
A lone Adriana penalty was all Orlando needed to scrape past Bay FC, who could only manage two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes in central Florida.
Meanwhile across the country, Portland eased past Seattle in a Cascadia showdown thanks to an early Olivia Moultrie goal and three late tallies at Providence Park to rub salt in the Seattle wound.
It doesn’t get more nervy than an outfield player clearing the ball off the line in dramatic fashion. Take a bow Kelli Hubly…
Scoring in a Cascadia rivalry game is always special, but its extra special when you’re the first teenager in the history of the fixture to do so.
The Pride extended their win streak to a club-record six straight matches, the longest regular-season winning streak in NWSL since North Carolina won six straight in 2019.
For Portland, they’ve begun to turn around their rocky start and have won four straight games to rocket up into fourth, just five points behind the Pride in first.
There is another slate of games still to come this weekend as KC Current host the Courage, Houston travel to LA to take on Angel City, and San Diego will take on Gotham FC in the quality Sunday fixtures.
