There is now sad certainty: Serge Gnabry will miss this summer’s World Cup. After days of speculation, the FC Bayern attacker has spoken out himself for the first time – and confirmed the worst fears
„The last few days have been difficult to digest,“ the 30-year-old wrote in an emotional statement on Instagram, adding that the serious adductor injury had not only ended his current season, but also shattered his big dream of playing in the World Cup
„As far as the World Cup dream with Germany is concerned… Unfortunately, that’s over for me,“ Gnabry made unmistakably clear
This has hit the international at a time when he was back at the top of his game and playing an important role both at FC Bayern and in the DFB squad

According to the club, Gnabry suffered the injury when he tore his adductor muscles in his right thigh – apparently during an unfortunate action in training. The downtime is likely to last several months
This is a bitter loss for FC Bayern in the final sprint of the season, but an even bigger blow for Gnabry personally, as the World Cup could have been one of his last chances to play in a major tournament with the national team
Despite the disappointment, the attacking player is looking ahead: „Now it’s time for me to focus on my recovery and prepare for the season,“ he explained
Gnabry announced that he would be supporting the national team from afar this summer: „Like the rest of the country, I’ll be supporting the boys from home.“
The Bayern star had already received numerous well-wishes in the past few days, for which he expressed his gratitude: „Thank you very much for all the messages.“
The focus is now fully on rehab – with the clear goal of returning stronger. For Gnabry, this marks the start of a race against time to get back to top level as quickly as possible.
