A look at just how much former Burnley captain Josh Brownhill is said to be earning at Al Shabab in the Saudi Pro League.
Josh Brownhill has been one of the best midfielders in the Championship in recent seasons, but the former Burnley man is now earning a hefty, almost unthinkable salary in the Saudi Pro League.
Having captained the Clarets to automatic promotion last season as the Clarets’ top scorer with 18 goals on their way to 100 points, it was then a fairly major surprise to see him depart the Lancastrians.
Warrington-born Brownhill, who came through the academy at Manchester United before turning professional with Preston North End and further establishing himself at Bristol City in the second tier of English football, rejected a new contract at Turf Moor in order to seek another move.
Having reportedly been the subject of interest from the likes of Leicester City, Brownhill eventually completed a move to the Middle East, signing for Al Shabab on a free transfer – and it is a move that has put Brownhill on an astronomical amount of money.

According to Capology, Josh Brownhill is earning an estimated weekly wage of £102,392 with Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
That astonishing weekly wage is said to more than comfortably doubled what he was on for his final two years at Burnley, having previously been on an estimated £45,456.
He is supposedly Al Shabab’s joint second-highest earner at the moment, alongside Yacine Adli, with only former Belgium international Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco earning more than the Englishman.
It has been a tricky season so far for Al Shabab with former Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil overseeing major underperformance in the first-half of the campaign as they hovered just above the bottom three and the relegation places in the Saudi Pro League.
He has since been replaced by Noureddine Zekri as they attempt to push away from the danger zone and Brownhill has been a key man throughout the campaign, as is to be expected for the fortunes that he is making.

Brownhill reportedly signed a two-year deal when he arrived in Saudi Arabia and so he will be contracted to Al Shabab until the summer of 2027.
When he does then come back available, at the age of 31, it is to be expected that Championship clubs will again circle for the former Barnsley loanee.
However, there will, inevitably, have to be a major drop in his wage expectations and demands with no club in the second-tier capable of signing a player on that salary.
In the 2025/26 Championship campaign, again according to Capology, no player is estimated to earn more than £90,000 per week and the top four highest earners, for example, are all Leicester players who were relegated from the Premier League with them.
In fact, £50,000, half of what Brownhill is on, appears to be the cap for a player signed by a second-tier club to be on with Carlos Vicente at Birmingham City and Finn Azaz at Southampton reportedly earning that weekly wage.
At Bristol City, for further context, Brownhill was reportedly on around between £4,000 and £6,000 while with the Robins before his move to Burnley for £9 million in 2020 - he's another world away from those days right now in Asia.
