The scenario: Fourth place from last season are up against 16th, who beat relegation in the play-offs and are one of only two clubs yet to pick up a point after two rounds of matches in the current campaign. BVB have started exactly as they did in the two years previously – with a victory and a draw.

Statistics: Borussia Dortmund have carried their run from last season over into the current campaign and are unbeaten in 10 Bundesliga matchdays stretching back into last season. In this period, there have been eight wins and two draws with 32 goals scored. In their last seven matches including last season, BVB have always scored at least three goals. Only Leipzig (nine Bundesliga matches in a row, 2019/20) and Bayern (eight Bundesliga matches in 2025) have achieved longer runs with more than two goals scored in each Bundesliga match.

Home/away: Borussia Dortmund won approximately only one in three of their away games last season (six in total), but picked up 10 out of a possible 12 points in their final four away matches and are unbeaten on the road since 15 March. Heidenheim finished bottom of the home table in 2024/25, losing 12 of their 17 matches on home turf (three wins and two draws), and also lost their first home game of this season (3-1 to Wolfsburg). Their most recently home victory to date came six months ago (3-1 against Kiel on 16 March).

Last season: In February 2025, amid temperatures narrowly above the freezing mark, the 15,000 fans at the sold-out Voith-Arena initially witnessed a one-sided match in which Borussia deservedly led at half-time thanks to Serhou Guirassy's 09th goal of the season. Maximilian Beier, who had come on shortly beforehand, made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute, but Heidenheim immediately pulled a goal back through Honsak to set up a nervy finish for the Black & Yellows.
