FC Bayern Munich continue to march through the Bundesliga season with impressive attacking power. After the clear 5:1 against TSG Hoffenheim, even a historic goal record is coming into focus. Coach Vincent Kompany, however, puts the issue in clear terms.

After 21 match days, Munich have already scored 79 goals – a figure that inevitably brings back memories of a legendary Bayern season. In the 1971/72 season, the record champions set a Bundesliga record with 101 goals under coach Udo Lattek, which still stands to this day. Even in the dominant 2019/20 season, FC Bayern remained wafer-thin below that with 100 goals.

The current team is statistically back in these spheres. The goal average per game is exceptionally high, with several players regularly contributing to the goal tally. In purely mathematical terms, the record is achievable, especially as a significant part of the second half of the season is still to come.

Kompany nevertheless wants to consciously change his focus. After the Hoffenheim game, the Belgian said: „It’s not a priority for me at the moment.“ At the same time, he made it clear that attacking dominance is part of the club’s DNA. „Of course we want to be strong offensively and score lots of goals as FC Bayern, and that’s what the fans demand. There’s no doubt about that.“

The Bayern coach referred to the structure of his team. „That’s one of our team’s strengths,“ explained Kompany, emphasizing that scoring goals does not depend on individual players. For him, the decisive factor is a consistent impression on the pitch.

The 39-year-old added: „My priority is to always have the feeling that we can score a goal at any time.“ This feeling is clearly there at the moment. „The boys are doing incredibly well at the moment,“ Kompany praised his team after the clear home win.
