Sweden’s Mattias Svanberg scored the second-fastest goal by a substitute in FIFA World Cup history during his nation's 5-1 win over Tunisia on Sunday.

The Wolfsburg midfielder netted with his very first touch after being introduced at the Monterrey Stadium, turning in from a Sweden set piece as Graham Potter's side made a dream start in their Group F opener.

After initially seeing the flag raised, Svanberg was soon celebrating as VAR confirmed the goal should stand.

The result took Sweden top of the group after an earlier draw between the Netherlands and Japan, and wrote Svanberg into the record books.

Timed at 18 seconds, the 27-year-old's goal is the second-fastest ever recorded by a substitute in World Cup history.

Therecord is held by Uruguay's Richard Morales, who took only 16 seconds to score off the bench against Senegal at the 2002 World Cup.

Just four World Cup substitutes have ever taken less than a minute to score after arriving from the bench.
