Chelsea come into tonight’s game with Charlton in the FA Cup with a new manager, and as you’d expect, that means lots more interest in the game than you would normally get it.

It was already put into the prime time 8pm slot, so there will be lots of eyes on it.

Liam Rosenior will want to get off to a strong start, and in his first press conference as Chelsea boss last night he explained what ideas he had been putting to his players in the limited time he’s had with them so far.

“That’s the first thing in football. You can talk about systems, tactics, but you have to win the battles,” Rosenior said.

“You have to win duels, you have to win headers, you have to run. And that’s the message I’ve given to the players over the last two days.

“You have to compete every day in training. You have to try to win every time you train. And you have to try to win every game that you play.”

The new manager also spoke about the influence of Jose Mourinho on him over the years, and we’d dearly like to see some evidence of that on the pitch tonight. A bit of fight and passion would go down a treat, and Charlton won’t make it easy.

In other news…

Rosenior is under no illusions about tonight’s game. It’s going to be a real challenge, and he said he has tried to communicate that to his players ahead of their late kick off.

Nathan Jones has made Charlton’s intentions clear in tonight’s game. They’re not just here to have a good time, they want to beat us.
