Los Angeles FC have shattered MLS’s transfer ceiling by securing Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min for a reported $26.5 million.
The 33-year-old forward has signed a designated-player deal until 2027, marking MLS’s most expensive incoming in history.
Martínez dazzled in his debut season with 11 goals and 14 assists, helping Atlanta lift the MLS Cup in 2019. He left for Al Nassr in mid-2020 but remains a benchmark for Argentine imports.
The Argentine playmaker immediately became a creative fulcrum, contributing 12 goals and 18 assists over two seasons before departing for Botafogo in 2024.
This summer, he joined Atletico Madrid after spending last season on loan at Lyon.
Signed from Cercle Brugge, the Togolese forward netted eight goals in his first half-season. Cincinnati plans to integrate him into their Leagues Cup roster after an upcoming minor groin procedure next week.
The Ivorian striker joined from Middlesbrough and logged nine goals in 16 appearances before a midseason injury. He has resumed full training and is on track for a September return.
LAFC officially unveiled Son one day after his LAX arrival, followed a routine medical at the club’s training facility. He is scheduled to make his debut in this weekend’s clash with Chicago Fire.
The South Korean arrives after a decorated decade at Tottenham, where he scored 173 goals and captained the club to Europa League success in 2025.
Son is the only Asian player to score 100+ goals in the Premier League and win the division’s Golden Boot.
