Coventry are the top scorers in the second tier at the moment with 15 goals after six games, despite their previous result being a goalless draw away to newly-relegated Leicester City.

The Sky Blues are one of just two sides to not have tasted defeat in the league so far this season, that being table-toppers Middlesbrough.

But unlike Boro, Coventry have drawn four of their six matches and won the other two, whilst the club from the North East has five wins and one draw, leaving a six point gap between the two clubs at the early stage of this season.

Sky Blues manager Frank Lampard will not be too concerned, however, as his side have looked clinical in front of goal so far, albeit seven of those goals did come in one match against QPR, who they defeated 7-1 at the CBS Arena last month.

Their top scorer, American international Wright, has been in scintillating form so far this campaign, having netted six goals and grabbing one assist in all competitions up to this stage, with five in the Championship, putting him joint-top of the goalscoring charts alongside Norwich striker and fellow countryman Josh Sargent.

Coventry host Birmingham at midday on Saturday, who have looked assured defensively up to this point in the season, and will once again need to be at their very best to get anything from the match; keeping Wright quiet will be among Blues' manager Chris Davies' top priorities.

With these two clubs having shared St Andrew's @ Knigthead Park just over four years ago, there is always an added bit of tension in the fixture between these two West Midlands rivals, which will no doubt be present for their meeting this weekend.

Birmingham have been particularly strong defensively so far this campaign, having conceded the joint-second least amount of goals in the Championship after matchweek six (5), with only the top two, Stoke City and Middlesbrough, conceding less (4).

However, facing the Championship top scorers in Coventry may change all of that, and Davies' side will need to be at their very best defensively if they want to take anything away from the CBS Arena.

Keeping the 27-year-old quiet will be of the upmost importance for the Blues, who will be well aware of the danger that he possesses.

If Birmingham can shut down Wright, then they have every chance of taking something from the match. Doing so, however, may prove easier said than done, with Wright's ability to carry the ball and run in behind — alongside clear goalscoring prowess — making him a formidable threat for Davies' men

Birmingham enjoyed a record-breaking 111 point campaign last season, where they broke the EFL points record as they bounced back to the second tier at the first time of asking, and much has been expected of them this season.

Having reinforced their attack with the signings of Kyogo Furuhashi, Lewis Koumas, Marvin Ducksch, Demarai Gray and Patrick Roberts, it has been their defence which has been the stronger department of the two so far this season.

The Blues have scored just five times all season, something which Coventry managed in one half against QPR.

The Sky Blues have been regulars in the play-off picture over the last few years, having finished in the top six in two of the last three seasons, having narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League in 2023 after losing on penalties in the play-off final to Luton Town.
