Recently, it came to light that Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has been released from the Spain national team squad due to discomfort.
Notably, he has been struggling with pubic discomfort since September, something that Barcelona’s medical staff have been carefully monitoring.
This latest development has once again sparked tension between Barcelona and Spain coach Luis de la Fuente regarding the player’s workload and recovery management.
De la Fuente has long maintained that if a player is fit enough to play for their club, then they should also be available for national duty.
However, with two decisive World Cup qualifiers ahead, against Georgia and Turkiye, it now appears that Yamal will not be part of the squad.
Now, Mundo Deportivo has detailed the entire sequence of events that led to this latest dispute between the club and the federation.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente announced a 26-man squad to prepare for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkiye.
Yamal was included in that list despite reports of minor physical discomfort.
According to the official statement from the RFEF, its Medical Services were informed at 13:47 on Monday that Yamal had undergone an “invasive radiofrequency procedure” earlier that morning to treat persistent pain in his pubic area.
This treatment was reportedly performed by Barcelona’s medical team and, according to the RFEF, had not been communicated to them beforehand.

The RFEF’s training schedule indicated that all players were expected to report to the Ciudad del Futbol in Las Rozas by 8:00 p.m.
However, Yamal did not arrive as he was recovering from his procedure.
The federation stated that they did not receive the official medical report from Barcelona until 22:40 – several hours after the player’s expected arrival.
The report recommended that Yamal rest for seven to ten days, a period that made participation in the upcoming matches impossible.
In response, the RFEF announced that it had acted “prioritising the player’s health, safety, and well-being at all times.”
As a result, they officially released Yamal from the squad and wished him “a speedy and full recovery.”
This incident has once again reignited tensions between Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation.
The two sides have had ongoing disagreements about the management of Barça’s players during international breaks, particularly concerning their physical workload and recovery schedules.
Barcelona, for their part, are believed to be frustrated by the recurring pressure placed on their youngsters.
With Yamal already crucial to Hansi Flick’s plans, the club remains focused on his gradual recovery and long-term fitness rather than short-term national commitments.
