Real Madrid have endured a difficult season so far, suffering multiple injuries, especially in defence.

While much has been said about the struggles of their offensive trifecta involving Kylian Mbappe, the defence has been equally culpable.

Injuries take a toll on Madrid defence

The absence of key defenders like Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, and Ferland Mendy has left the team vulnerable, forcing Ancelotti to rely on makeshift solutions.

The recent 3-3 draw with Rayo Vallecano highlighted the defensive frailties. The team’s inability to contain opponents in the box and their lack of defensive coordination were evident in each of the three goals conceded.

De Frutos’s ease in beating Fran Garcia, Mumin’s aerial dominance over Lucas Vazquez, and Isi’s unchallenged run into the box were all clear examples of defensive lapses.

While the team’s attacking prowess, led by Bellingham’s goal-scoring spree, has been impressive, the defensive issues threaten to derail their season.

The 16 goals conceded in the last 10 games, an average of 1.6 per game, is a stark contrast to the defensive solidity they were known for.

Ancelotti has attributed the defensive struggles to the numerous injuries, stating, “When everyone returns, we will be much better.”

However, the team’s reliance on a fully fit squad raises concerns about their long-term sustainability.

With a challenging schedule ahead, Real Madrid must find a way to shore up their defense and prevent further damage.
