Marcus Rashford’s eyes will have lit up reading the recent speculation over his future following reports that Barcelona have begun exploring a deal.

Indeed, the Manchester United star could well seal what’s been dubbed his ‘dream’ transfer, as Barcelona are ‘keen’ to add him to their ranks irrespective of whether Nico Williams signs in the coming days.

The La Liga champions had prioritised a move for Williams since the window reopened on June 16, consequently putting their Rashford interest on the back burner. Now, with pre-season right around the corner, Hansi Flick wouldn’t turn down the opportunity of both forwards bolstering his options, as per The Guardian.

Ben Jacobs adds that the 27-year-old is ‘willing to play in a more central role’ to suit the system Flick has instilled in Catalonia, meaning he could well play second fiddle to ageing frontman Robert Lewandowski.

What poses as an issue from United’s perspective, however, is that Barcelona are eyeing an initial loan this summer before potentially forking out a fee for Rashford this time next year. INEOS chiefs are adamant about recuperating £40 million of pure profit via the Carrington graduate’s sale, so there’s certainly work to be done if formal negotiations are opened this week.

Rashford’s agent met with Sporting Director Deco last month to gauge the prospect of a deal coming to fruition before the situation fell quiet. Now, fans can expect further developments if the Camp Nou outfit ignite their pursuit — and it’s safe to say personal terms won’t be hard to come by.

Assuming United’s No.10 has indeed played his final competitive game for his boyhood club, whom he joined aged seven, he’ll leave with 426 appearances to his name, including 138 goals and 79 assists.
