Last year, Jong Utrecht finished second bottom of the Dutch second tier. As many know, the football pyramid in the Netherlands is closed at the top two levels, so the side were not relegated. In truth, they should have finished bottom, but Vitesse were deducted 39 points and finished with just five. In 38 matches, Jong Utrecht won just four games.

Fast forward a few months, and the side seem to have turned things around. The youngsters of Utrecht have won two of their opening five games and are well on their way to eclipse the four games they won last season. Given that the side have finished in the bottom three in the last five seasons, this is a welcome return. Calls for removing them from the Eerste Divisie have been growing and in truth, their performances in recent years hardly merit their inclusion in the league. However, this year might be different.

One player that has stood out so far this season is 21-year-old forward Noa Dundas. The youngster has one assist and two goals in five matches this season. Dundas was part of the Excelsior set up until joining Utrecht and has represented the Netherlands at U19 level. Former Odense midfielder Markus Gustav Jensen has also done well, having joined Utrecht on loan this summer. So far, Gustav Jensen has two assists in three games. Another midfielder showing some promise is Turkish youngster Emirhan Demircan, with two goals in four games. The former Bayern Munich youngster joined in the summer and has also made appearances for the senior team.

Utrecht’s senior side are riding high after a fantastic 2024/2025 campaign in the Eredivisie. It appears that, maybe this year, their Jong Utrecht counterparts will have one themselves.
