Minjae Kim’s future at FC Bayern remains uncertain. Two top European clubs are reportedly vying for the South Korean center back—and an initial trend appears to be emerging.

It’s no secret that Kim is on the market at Säbener Straße. Juventus and Manchester United are currently considered the most serious suitors. Both clubs are said to have thrown their hats into the ring—so the next move is up to the defender himself.

However, a direction is already becoming apparent. BILD’s soccer editor, Christian Falk, assessed the situation as follows: “It’s true that Minjae Kim is on Manchester United’s radar. But I’ve heard that the lead to Juventus is stronger.”

Kim is still planning to stay with FC Bayern

Despite the interest, a departure from Munich is by no means a foregone conclusion. According to Falk, the World Cup veteran is clearly happy at the German record champions. “He enjoys his role within the club,” the transfer insider revealed. Kim could therefore be perfectly content with the status of a top-tier reserve—and isn’t actively pushing for a transfer.

How this poker game plays out apparently depends first and foremost on Juventus: “Let’s wait and see what happens with Juventus. After that, United might open talks if things don’t work out with Turin,” said Falk. The Italian record champions thus seem to hold the upper hand.

Transfer fee and salary as potential sticking points

It remains unclear how much money FC Bayern wants for Kim. Contradictory figures are circulating: *kicker* most recently cited a price tag of between 20 and 25 million euros. Internally, however, according to cfbayerninsider, the club is reportedly eyeing a transfer fee of 30 to 40 million euros.

However, salary expectations could become the real sticking point. In Munich, the center back earns a sum in the tens of millions per season. It’s considered unlikely that he’ll back down from that and take a significant pay cut—and that could further complicate a transfer.
