The Moroccan daily "Al Mountakhab" continues to spotlight the prestigious Lion d'Or award, established in 2004 with the triumph of former Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o.

Since its inception, this trophy has become a major benchmark for honoring Africa’s top footballers, both domestically and on the international stage.

For the 2025 edition, the Moroccan newspaper has unveiled the list of ten nominees for the title of best African player, led by Achraf Hakimi, who won the 2024/2025 Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 10 nominees for the African Lion d'Or

Here’s the list of the ten nominated players:

Achraf Hakimi (Morocco – Paris Saint-Germain), Mohamed Salah (Egypt – Liverpool), Omar Marmoush (Egypt – Manchester City), Pape Sarr (Senegal – Tottenham), Yves Bissouma (Mali – Tottenham), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea – Borussia Dortmund), Oussama Mellouili (Morocco – Renaissance de Berkane), Victor Osimhen (Nigeria – Galatasaray), Fiston Mayele (Democratic Republic of Congo – Pyramids FC), and André-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Cameroon – Napoli).

The name of the winner for best African player will be revealed next Monday, November 17, as confirmed by the Moroccan newspaper.
