With Premier League teams suffering plenty of injuries this season, it has been an opportunity for many clubs to give youth a chance, and plenty of young talents have taken their chances with both hands.
Here are some of the breakthrough teenagers at Premier League clubs this season…

Josh Acheampong’s future at Chelsea was thrown into doubt when reports emerged that he had been frozen out after not signing a new contract. Fast forward two months and the 18-year-old has now announced himself with a first-team debut against Astana in the Conference League in December which was followed up by his first Premier League start against Crystal Palace, after signing a new contract with the club. He instantly impressed, which led to Enzo Maresca calling him the best player on the pitch against Palace, and he may be the answer to Chelsea’s injuries in central defence.

It has been a rapid rise to stardom for Ethan Nwaneri. The 17-year-old has had to bide his time amid much fanfare having made his first team debut at 15 years and 181 days, but now Nwaneri is flourishing under Mikel Arteta. Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard has allowed the young midfielder to thrive in various roles, scoring two goals in the Premier League and three more in the Carabao Cup. Despite his tender age, playing on the big stage has not seemed to have effected Nwaneri’s confidence.
Another player from the Arsenal academy who has impressed has been Myles Lewis-Skelly. The 18-year-old has deputised well at left-back for Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber with his more experienced teammates struggling for fitness. Lewis-Skelly, who is naturally a central midfielder, has been a consistent performer for Mikel Arteta since breaking into the first team, making 12 appearances in the process. In his three Premier League starts, Arsenal have conceded just once, and they have also won every Champions League match in which the youngster has featured in.
Mikey Moore was the talk of Tottenham earlier this season as he emerged as a star for the future under Ange Postecoglou. Still only 17-years-old, Moore’s entry into the first team this season has been greeted with huge excitement by Tottenham supporters, with his performance against AZ Alkmaar hailing comparisons from team-mate James Maddison to Brazilian star Neymar. His season has been disrupted by illness but Postecoglou will be hoping for Moore’s return to full fitness in the near future.

Introduced into the first-team fold by former manager Russell Martin, Tyler Dibling has been a revelation for a Southampton side that has been rock bottom for almost the entirety of the Premier League season. After impressing in his first league start against Manchester United, the 18-year-old has featured in all but one of Southampton’s Premier League matches this season.
His standout moment came against league leaders Liverpool, where he was a constant threat on the counter-attack and played a pivotal part in the Saints’ two goals that afternoon. Chelsea, who Dibling departed in 2022 after ten years, are one of many top clubs said to be monitoring the midfielder who could move on in the summer with his contract set to expire.

A consistent performer for Bournemouth, who have been one of the surprise packages to emerge this season. Huijsen has burst onto the scene in recent weeks. His arrival from Italian giants Juventus caused much fanfare, after the Spanish-Dutch defender caught the eye at fellow Italian club AS Roma. After a slow start to life on the south coast, Huijsen has emerged as a consistent starter for Andoni Iraola, with goals against Manchester United and Tottenham increasing his reputation further.

The youngster arrived at Tottenham in the summer for £30m from Leeds United and having been mainly used off the bench earlier on in the season, has broken into the first team of late, playing out of position at centre-back due to Spurs’ injury crisis. He has more than held his own despite playing in an unfamiliar role and in a team battered by injuries, and looks set to be a brilliant player in the future.
