Harry Kane is currently undergoing a remarkable transformation at FC Bayern. The superstar, who just a few years ago was defined almost exclusively by his goalscoring rate, has long since matured into a fully-fledged all-round player in Munich. Under Vincent Kompany, the Englishman is interpreting his role more variably than ever before – and now speaks openly about the changes that are giving him „the most fun of his life“.
With 24 goals and three assists in 18 competitive matches, Harry Kane remains a guarantor for brilliant moments in the penalty area. But his importance for the German record champions now goes far beyond that. The injury lay-off of Jamal Musiala has significantly expanded Kane’s radius. The 32-year-old drops back more often, participates in the build-up play, takes on creative tasks – and seems downright inspired in this new freedom.
Kane summed up his development to AFP : „I know that I’m not just a goalscorer. I can influence the team with passes, one-on-one situations and by relieving pressure.“
The fact that Kompany is involving him more in the offensive structure visibly fills the England captain with joy: „It’s the most fun I’ve ever had in soccer because I’m just more involved. I love the way we play, very aggressive, without fear.“

Data confirms the impression: Kane moves into his own half much more often, acting as a hanging forward or additional ball distributor. He deliberately seeks out the spaces in which Musiala normally operates – and fills them with impressive consistency.
The superstar explains how much he enjoys this new dimension to his game: „I love tackling, I love helping the team, blocking shots and all of that is just part of it for me.“
These are sentences that show: Kane is not just the enforcer in Munich, but the complete leader who takes responsibility in all phases.
Musiala’s return will once again change the statics of Bayern’s attacking play, but Kane is relaxed about that: „Of course I’ll be judged on goals, but I think people will also appreciate other things from me this season.“
His new role is therefore unlikely to simply disappear – in just a few months, it has developed into a strategic element that characterizes Kompany’s style.
Rumours about a possible move in the summer have been circulating recently, but Kane has now spoken clearly to BILD: „I haven’t been in contact with anyone, no one has contacted me.“ He emphasizes how comfortable he feels in Munich: „I’m really happy in Munich. You can see that in the way I play.“ There is currently no time pressure for him to make a decision about his long-term future: „There’s no rush.“
