The most goals by a substitute in a single Premier League season

Christian Benteke - Liverpool, 2015-16 (6)

Christian Benteke looked like an odd fit forLiverpool from the moment he pitched up at Anfield. Liverpool spent £32.5m to sign the big Belgian from Aston Villa, despite his lack of stylistic suitability to Brendan Rodgers' game plan.

Benteke scored nine goals in thePremier League during his sole season with the Reds, of which more than half his appearances (15/29) came from the bench.

Jermain Defoe - West Ham, 2001-02 (6)

Jermain Defoe holds the record for Premier League goals as a substitute after scoring 24 times off the bench across his career.

Defoe's best season for substitute goals came in 2001-02, as the teenager sought to establish himself atWest Ham. A breakout year saw Defoe score 10 times in the Premier League, with six as a substitute.

Olivier Giroud - Arsenal, 2016-17 and 2017-18 (6)

Olivier Giroud ranks second in the all-time list for goals as a substitute in the Premier League (21), with only Defoe having scored more.

Giroud scored 12 of those goals across the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns, when the Frenchman was regularly, and perhaps unfairly, used as a Plan B option.

Adam Le Fondre - Reading, 2012-13 (8)

Adam Le Fondre holds the record for substitute goals in a single season, having netted eight times for Reading off the bench in 2012-13. Le Fondre made 34 appearances for the Royals that season, though 23 came as a substitute.

Incredibly, of his eight substitute goals, five were scoring in January. He netted an equaliser in a thrilling comeback win against West Bromwich Albion as Reading recovered from two goals down to win, scoring three times in the final nine minutes.

Le Fondre then repeated his super-sub act with a brace in a 2-1 win at Newcastle, before scoring twice again during a stunning draw with Chelsea.
