After two seasons with the 24/7 Kit, the time has come for a brand new secondary kit. As fans know, Major League Soccer teams change their primary and secondary kit every other year, rotating between the two. Since New York City FC got a new primary kit last season, the team revealed the new secondary kit on Tuesday.
The All Nations Kit was created to celebrate the city and its diversity, especially in the year of the World Cup. Per the Bronx and Queens side, the new jersey celebrates "the banner and spirit that unites our five-borough nation of nations."
In addition, Milo Kowalski, New York City FC Senior Director, Creative, said, "The All Nations Kit reflects the energy, pride, and diversity that define New York City and our Club. It is a celebration of the dynamic multicultural fabric that unites our five boroughs under one banner, on and off the pitch.”
When photos of the NYCFC jersey were first released, truthfully, it was difficult to like it. But now, after seeing it clearly, the team released a solid secondary kit. Sure, it might not be the 24/7 Kit, but it is still nice and unique, and not like other dark blue jerseys.
The front of the jersey has "a mid-century modern-style, overlapping spherical pattern" that is inspired "from the 1964-65 World's Fair at Flushing Meadows Park". This is supposed to represent "how the many cultures of New York City combine to form something even greater."
The pattern is unique, and it looks better on players and fans compared to just seeing a photo of the jersey. However, when looking at the kit in a certain way, and based on what one is viewing it on, it can look dizzying. It will be interesting to see how it looks on TV and in person once the 2026 season begins.
Meanwhile, the representation does not stop there. NYCFC also said that "the metallic logos, details, and trims throughout the kit are influenced by the Unisphere, the centerpiece of Flushing Meadows, as well as the jock tag: a reminder of the Club's role playing the World's Game for the World's City." This was actually a smart move. Sure, most people will not know that the kit honors the World Cup. But it can be explained, and it shows the club is not just focused on MLS, but everything about the world's game.
That is not all, though. The best part about the full kit is the fact that it pays homage to the New York City flag. When the team wears the full outfit, they will wear the dark blue jersey, white shorts, and orange socks. In other words, NYCFC will look like a walking flag. More importantly, they will represent how the flag brings "the many nations brought together as one under its banner".
Overall, the club has put out another good kit. There is no question that the sleek look of the 24/7 Kit will be missed. Still, the All Nations Kit is a way to say "I love you, New York City" without saying "I love you." It also says to the fans that everyone is a part of the city, no matter their background. The Big Apple is for everyone, and NYCFC is for everyone.
