The Newcastle United doom mongers are out in force – Beware!

Article image:The Newcastle United doom mongers are out in force – Beware!

A lot of over the top negativity I am seeing about Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe’s side weren’t great today but on the other hand, they were far from the shambles that some fans are claiming.

Newcastle United weren’t lucky to get a point at Bournemouth.

I think that was a very fair result and indeed I felt NUFC edged it.

I base that on the evidence of my own eyes and the stats below.

I can’t remember Nick Pope having a real difficult save to make apart from the goal he had no chance with, whilst at the other end Neto made a series of excellent saves in the final 20 or so minutes, before and after our deserved equaliser.

Some Newcastle fans are claiming Bournemouth controlled the whole game, which is laughable.

Newcastle were really good the first 20 or so minutes and dominated the game, they just couldn’t get that final pass right. Then they kind of lost their way a bit and Bournemouth were edging it, they then took the lead and it didn’t exactly help that then as the home side looked to disrupt NUFC attack after attack by fouls, the referee was so reluctant to get his cards out.

The final 20/25 minutes saw Newcastle United back in the ascendancy and the equaliser was more than deserved. As for that ‘winner’ late on, it was blatant handball and a simple decision for VAR to deny Bournemouth what would have been a very lucky victory.

The Cherries are far from being push overs and a hate this attitude of ‘we should be beating teams like Bournemouth…’

Yes, they might be able to fit all their fans inside a bus shelter, but the fact is they are again establishing themselves as a Premier League club thanks to Premier League riches and have just spent over £40m on a striker.

Bournemouth only lost six of nineteen PL home games last season and four of the six were to those who finished top five in the table.

A draw is not a disgrace at Bournemouth.

Nor is playing 73 minutes at home with 10 men, keeping a clean sheet and beating Southampton.

Plenty of room for improvement, yes.

Time to panic, no.
