Starting his career out at Santos, Rodrygo made waves when he burst onto the scene as a teenager. He was dubbed as the next Pele, having come through the same club as the Brazilian icon.
At the time, Liverpool wanted to sign him, which has since been confirmed by Rodrygo himself. But the deal ultimately fell through and Rodrygo ended-up joining Real Madrid.
It's the one move Pele was never able to make in his career. But in the national team Rodrygo has continued to follow in the footsteps of his icon, even wearing the famous no.10 shirt for the Brazilian national team.
At Real Madrid, Rodrygo has also established himself as one of the best young attackers in European football. He's won La Liga and multiple Champions League titles with the Spanish side.
But now it seems like Rodrygo is open to a new challenge. Reports have suggested that he's looking to leave the Spanish side and this gives Hughes a golden chance to lure him to Anfield.
Sure, other clubs will be in the race for Rodrygo. But Liverpool came very close to signing him back in his Santos days. Knowing that the Reds have admired him for so long, gives Hughes an advantage in his pursuit.
Rodrygo is the perfect option for Liverpool, too. He can play on either wing but his best position is probably as a central no.10.
One of the Brazilian's best assets is his creativity. With Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving, Rodrygo could fill the void left behind and make sure Liverpool still have a creative outlet who can break down opposition defences.
He's still only 24-years-old. That's the prime age for Liverpool in terms of prospective targets and knowing the previous interest in him, this is a move that simply makes sense.
It's also one Hughes is never going to have a better chance at securing. So, it's time to act now before another club swoops in to lure away the biggest player on the market right now.
