As the summer transfer window approaches, indications are emerging as to what positions Manchester City will look to strengthen. It would seem a right-back and signing a midfielder, or possibly two midfielders is high on City’s agenda. One player who has been consistently linked with a potential summer move to City is Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. It does seem that the odds are shortening by the week that Anderson will land at the Etihad this summer. A new report indicates that City are considered the front-runners to sign Elliot Anderson ahead of their arch-rivals Manchester United. It feels like the noise is now becoming deafening in terms of the England international signing for City.
Sami Mokbel has reported for the BBC that Manchester City and Manchester United are both eager to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest this summer. Furthermore, Mokbel reports that Nottingham Forest are likely to demand a transfer fee of at least £80 million to sell a key player in their midfield. It is also reported by Sami Mokbel that City are considered the clear front-runners to sign Anderson this summer ahead of Manchester United.
Sami Mokbel’s report is yet another indication of who Manchester City’s top target to strengthen their midfield is: Elliot Anderson. Mokbel’s information isn’t a surprise. It has seemed for some time now that Anderson is destined to become a Manchester City player in the near future. What Mokbel’s report does do is reinforce the fact that City are determined to beat their rivals to signing one of the top midfielders in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s side does needs to add more energy to their midfield. If Nico O’Reilly doesn’t start in midfield, which occurred against Real Madrid twice, Bernardo Silva and Rodri struggle against younger, athletic opponents. If City do sign Elliot Anderson, it would address this issue and also add a player who would likely become a key part of Manchester City’s midfield for years to come.
Manchester City are reportedly the front-runners to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest this summer. That news isn’t a major surprise. Sami Mokbel’s report just adds to noise which is becoming deafening that the England international is likely to join City in a few months time.
