Nottingham Forest are banking on Vitor Pereira to arrest a slide and keep them in the Premier League as a fraught season hangs in the balance.
According to Nottingham Post, four managers in one campaign is new territory for a top-flight side, and owner Evangelos Marinakis has gambled that upheaval pays off. Sean Dyche was dismissed after Wednesday’s 0-0 with Wolverhampton Wanderers, ending a 114-day stint.
Nuno Espirito Santo departed three games into the season and Ange Postecoglou lasted 39 days. Pereira must also juggle survival with a Europa League play-off against Fenerbahce this month.
Potential winners include Jair Cunha, whose only league run-out, at Newcastle in October under Postecoglou, was promising before he disappeared from contention. James McAtee impressed against Ferencvaros with a late penalty yet was unused for three straight games. Dilane Bakwa has also looked low on confidence and could benefit from careful man-management.
Among possible losers, Lorenzo Lucca’s miss against Wolves summed up a wasteful night. He scored with his head at Leeds, though the hosts repeatedly played to his feet on Wednesday. Pereira must coax more from Lucca and Igor Jesus, while Taiwo Awoniyi waits and Forest hope Chris Wood is back soon.
Nicolas Dominguez was shunted wide as Ibrahim Sangare and Elliot Anderson formed Dyche’s preferred midfield. After a poor outing at Leeds that left Zach Abbott exposed, he was benched on Wednesday. For now, breaking up that Sangare-Anderson axis surely looks unlikely.
