Final friendly match against Sheffield Wednesday

We have one last test before our Red Bulls start the 2024/25 competitive season! On Saturday 20 July at 16:00 CEST, Pepijn Lijnders has one last chance to finetune in a friendly match against Sheffield Wednesday before we open the season in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup next Friday.

Our coach is keeping his cards up his sleeves ahead of the tests in Austria and Europe, with the clash against the English second-tier side at the Red Bull Arena behind closed doors. There will be no live stream either - but we will, of course, provide you with the score and a match report.

Sheffield Wednesday lowdown

The name Wednesday comes from the fact that the original club, The Wednesday Cricket Club, played their matches on Wednesday evenings. The football division was founded to provide a sport to play over the winter.
The Owls had their glory period at the start of the 20th century, with four English titles (1903, 1904, 1929 and 1930).
Wednesday were last in the English Premier League from 1992 to 2000. The club spent two seasons down in the third tier before gaining promotion back to the Championship.
