Despite the great sporting heritage of FC Barcelona, the club continues to struggle with some modern problems. A club once renowned for possessing some of the world’s biggest stars, it is now an organization dumped with financial limitations. To overcome these limitations, however, Barcelona need to make some key decisions.

One such key decision revolves around the entire deal that is currently being worked on with Nike. The American sports brand, a long-term partner for FC Barcelona, is currently looking to figure out an agreement with the Catalan club that would allow them to continue being the team’s sponsor for the next decade or so.

In turn, Barcelona is expecting significant financial compensation and many updates are coming out suggesting that most of the details have been ironed out. Expected to be one of the most lucrative deals of such a nature across football history, it will surely be a momentous occasion for both Barcelona and Nike.

Unfortunately, however, that deal has still not been signed. While it would likely help the team massively in returning to the 1:1 rule that they so desperately crave, there are still some complications that continue to remain unresolved. According to MARCA, there are still some pending areas of concern that are being sorted out between the involved parties.

The signing bonus

For many major deals in the world of football, signings bonuses are considered a norm. It shows a clear indication of intent and it is not an uncommon practice for big clubs and organizations. In this case, however, that amount is still to be finalized between Barcelona and Nike. As per the report, the club could receive €150 million upfront in case the negotiations go the way they are expected to.

The annual payment

However, in case there is a signing bonus, Barcelona still would like to figure out what they can expect as their payment per season. As far as MARCA is concerned, that amount could be around €125 million. For now, however, the report suggests that this matter needs to be finalized as well.

Fortunately, however, these issues are not expected to delay the contract’s finalization for much longer. As of right now, the report states that all concerned parties are currently optimistic that the deal will be finalized by the end of this October. Most of the general terms have already been agreed upon, and just a few minor concerns are left to be ironed out.
