Valencia and Atlético Madrid have shared a steady flow of players for almost a century. AS highlights a long list that stretches from early greats to modern mainstays.

Recent moves include Germán Valera, who joined Atlético in 2019, signed for Valencia in 2024 after ending his deal, and is now starting for Elche. Daniel Wass left Valencia for Atlético in 2021-22, having earlier joined from Celta for €six million, his spell curtailed by injury. Samuel Lino cost Atlético €six point five million and scored eight on loan with Valencia in 2022-23 before returning.

Rodrigo de Paul arrived at Valencia in 2014, left for Udinese in 2016, reappeared in Spain five years later with Atlético, and this week Inter Miami made his transfer permanent after four seasons in Madrid. Geoffrey Kondogbia moved from Valencia to Atlético in November 2020, then on to Olympique de Marseille after three years.

Kevin Gameiro hit 27 in 82 for Atlético, lifted the 2018 Europa League, then netted 24 for Valencia and scored in the 2019 Copa del Rey final. Luciano Vietto’s Valencia debut brought a Las Palmas hat-trick after a €20 million 2015 Atlético move, but he faded. Guilherme Siqueira won the 2014 Supercopa with Atlético before an injury-hit Valencia loan.

Across the decades the route has also featured David Villa, Mista, Diego Alonso, Salva Ballesta, Rubén Baraja, Luboslav Penev and Jorge Otero. Earlier eras included Enrique Collar, Ricardo Zamora de Grassa, Cheché Martín, Taltavull Monjo, Antonio Pérez Balada, Abdón, Santos, Urtiaga and Tercero.
