Manchester United will be up against Everton on Monday to mark their return from the international break.

Currently on a five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, United are one point off the top four. By Monday, that picture might have changed given the other fixtures taking place on Saturday and Sunday, but Ruben Amorim will be aiming to guide his side to three points at Old Trafford.

Fans have been anxious for updates on Benjamin Sesko’s availability, but what players are available to Amorim and how will he set them up against David Moyes’ men?

Last time out

Prior to the international break, United drew 2-2 with Tottenham in a game with a dramatic ending.

The lineup Ruben Amorim chose included Senne Lammens in goal, behind a back three of Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.

Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu played as wing-backs, with Casemiro partnering Bruno Fernandes in between in midfield.

In attack, Amad Diallo and Matheus Cunha supported Bryan Mbeumo.

Injury list

The main concern for United on the injury front at the moment is for Benjamin Sesko, with the striker set for a spell on the sidelines.

Amorim has confirmed Sesko will be out for a few weeks, which will force United into using a different kind of attacker up front – either Mbeumo, exit-linked Joshua Zirkzee or midfielder-by-trade Mason Mount.

At the other end of the pitch, Harry Maguire has been absent from training recently and Amorim has admitted he won’t be ready.

Any absence should be short term, though, and in the same position, Lisandro Martinez should be nearly ready to return to action, even if not as a starter.

In midfield, Kobbie Mainoo will be touch and go after missing training on Friday, although provisionally being able to return on Saturday.

Selection battles

The main selection battles for Amorim to weigh up ahead of Monday will largely stem from Sesko’s injury.

Does he put Mbeumo in the more advanced position again? Or does he drop Amad back into a wing-back role (which then opens up a debate about whether to go with Diogo Dalot, Mazraoui or Dorgu on the other side) and bring someone like Mount or Zirkzee in?

It could be a make-or-break opportunity for Zirkzee, who hasn’t been a regular starter this season and is heavily linked with a January exit.
