Jeremy Monga became the second-youngest player in Premier League history when he came off the bench for Leicester in their loss to Newcastle last night.

The 2009-born teenager, aged 15 years and 271 days, was not allowed to wear the Foxes’ betting sponsor on their shirt because he is under-18.

Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri is the only player younger to have played in the Premier League when he featured against Brentford in 2022, aged 15 years and 181 days.

So who are the five youngest players to have played in the Premier League and where are they now?

Club: Arsenal

Age during first appearance: 15 years and 181 days

This season Nwaneri has broken into Mikel Arteta’s squad playing 23 of the 31 matches this season. He has flourished in the absence of Bukayo Saka, who needed hamstring surgery at the end of 2024. The teen sensation has even managed five goal contributions in the league, whilst also scoring in the Champions League. This form earned him a call up to the England U21 squad where he also got on the scoresheet.

Club: Liverpool

Age during first appearance: 16 years and 30 days

Harvey Elliott has only played 12 matches this season for Liverpool but is still in line to win his first Premier League title. The 2003-born midfielder suffered a broken foot at the beginning of the campaign forcing him to miss a large portion of the early season. Despite this, the former Fulham man scored the winner against PSG at the Parc de Princes in the Champions League and manager Arne Slot has been suitably impressed by his impact off the bench throughout the campaign.

Matthew Briggs (34)

Club: Retired

Age during first appearance: 16 years and 68 days

The Guyana international only managed 13 Premier League appearances and had his best spell as a professional at Colchester United in the lower divisions, playing 59 times. He retired in 2023 just one month after joining Isthmian League Premier Division side, Horsham. The former footballer now works as an academy mentor at the club that gave him his first Premier League minutes as a 16-year-old.

Isaiah “Izzy” Brown (28)

Club: Retired

Age during first appearance: 16 years and 117 days

The former Chelsea player made his Premier League debut for West Bromwich Albion in 2013. Brown only made one appearance for the Blues before going on loan to a number of clubs. The former England Under-20 international retired in 2023 after recurring injury issues. His last club was Preston North End.

Aaron Lennon (37)

Club: Retired

Age during first appearance: 16 years and 129 days

Lennon made his debut for Leeds United in 2003 but spent most of his career at Tottenham Hotspur. The winger made 266 appearances for the north London side forming a good partnership with Gareth Bale on the wings for Spurs. He retired in 2022 at 35, after playing professional football for 19 years.
