Michael Olise has long been more than just an exceptional player at FC Bayern – he is a link. While the French international hardly says a word in front of a microphone, he has long since taken on a central role internally as the team’s mood maker and communicator.

After the 3:0 win against Bayer Leverkusen, Olise disappeared silently through the mixed zone of the Allianz Arena as usual – with his head bowed, headphones in his ears and his hood pulled low over his face. Not a word to journalists, no hesitation, not a glance to the left or right. Anyone who only knows him like this might think Olise is a loner. But behind the scenes, a completely different picture emerges.

The „communicator of the team“

„He’s the boss of our WhatsApp group,“ Jonathan Tah told L’Équipe. „Michael gets on well with everyone, with Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Sacha Boey and Min-jae Kim. He’s the team’s great communicator, he’s super cool.“

In fact, the 23-year-old is considered to be one of the most important masterminds behind the team spirit in the dressing room. On his sofa in his villa in Grünwald, Olise regularly shares specially compiled rap playlists with his team-mates. The music he chooses regularly creates a great atmosphere in the team group – and ensures that even the quieter types get involved.

His popularity is also growing steadily outside Säbener Straße. Recently, Olise surprised the youth team of SV Waldperlach, an amateur club on the outskirts of Munich. There, he completed a running session with a fitness trainer in private – without any PR entourage.

Popular with fans and team-mates

When the club’s U16s realised who was doing his laps on the pitch, the youngsters interrupted their training session. Instead of reacting with annoyance, Olise remained friendly, took time for photos and joked with the players.

Coach Michael Hofmann, once a goalkeeper for 1860 Munich, was impressed: „He visited our club privately and in the strictest confidence to improve his fitness. Afterwards, he was totally open and likeable. None of our lads will forget something like that.“

With his quiet but honest gestures, Olise has not only played his way into the hearts of Bayern fans, but has also earned a great deal of trust internally. While his team-mates describe him as a cool, unifying character, his standing on the pitch is growing from week to week.
