Although we are in World Cup month, Inter Miami is still a media spot; it doesn’t matter whether it is a transfer rumour or an update in the coaching staff. Recently, we reported that Parma will activate the buy option for Benjamin Cremaschi.
Now, Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist, has reported, via social media, that the Herons decided to extend Guillermo Hoyos' contract until the end of the season.
However, there is a crucial reason Inter Miami decided to continue with Hoyos as head coach, and Heron fans will be glad to hear it.
Guillermo Hoyos left his sporting director position after the club announced that Javier Mascherano was stepping down as the head coach.
The Jefecito gave the club their first MLS Cup trophy, but an inconsistent beggining to this season made the board change their mind about having the former FC Barcelona player.
Hoyos arrived as an interim head coach, meaning he will lead the squad until the club hires another coach. Despite any rumours, the truth is that the Mexican coach's strong start gave Inter Miami even more reasons to keep him rather than part ways and start over with a new manager.
Since Inter Miami's inception as a soccer club, five managers have taken charge of the team, but none have matched Hoyos’ impressive record.
This is exactly why the club chose to extend his contract until the end of the season: stability. Hoyos debut was against the Colorado Rapids. Since then, the Mexican manager has recorded six wins, one draw, and one defeat, leaving the club in second position of the Eastern Conference.
Previously, the coach holding the best record was Gerardo “Tata” Martino with four wins, one draw, and two defeats across his first seven games.
