It was a rosy summer for Chelsea.

They finished the season in the Premier League with a string of good results, qualified for the Champions League, won the Conference League and then the Club World Cup.

They made some interesting transfers, and after a short break were back in action.

Maresca on Chelsea’s midweek games affecting league form

Enzo Maresca speaks to the press about the bomb squad.

But already things are looking a little tricky, and that busy summer appears to be costing them already. Two wins (one of which had a lot of fortune about it) two draws and a defeat in the season so far mean the next few games will define whether this is a good or bad start to the season.

Speaking in his press conference today, manager Enzo Maresca was asked about how much of an advantage Manchester United’s free summer and clear midweek would be in the game between the two sides tomorrow:

“If you ask me, I prefer to play the Champions League game, no doubt. But at the same time, the reality is that they have one entire week to prepare the game. And we played a game two days ago, 48 hours ago. But again, I prefer to play the Champions League games,” Maresca said.

Manager denies increased pressure after bad results

The coach was also asked if there was more pressure to get a result tomorrow after failing to win in their last 2 games. He denied that was the case:

“Absolutely not. Personally, I have pressure on the game, that I want to try to win all the game. But it’s not because we didn’t win Brentford and we lost Bayern Munich away, that this game I feel more pressure,” the coach explained.

“I always have pressure because we want to win all the games. And again, I think Bayern Munich away, PSG away and Barcelona away, probably they were the worst stadium to go and play the first game in. And we were there, we competed face-to-face. And we’ll see in the next one.”
