Enzo Maresca revealed Marc Guiu missed Chelsea’s win against Lincoln on Tuesday because he “felt something” in training before the game.
Despite a poor performance Chelsea advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win thanks to second half goals from Tyrique George and Facundo Buonanotte.
It was a night to forget for the Blues, and they were booed off at half time after an awful performance, which saw them head in a goal down.
George was handed a start at centre forward with Guiu supposedly cup tied after featuring in the second round for Sunderland.
However, due to a rule change Guiu can now feature for the Blues in the competition, although reportedly Chelsea were unaware of this.

Guiu almost certainly would have started this game, but Maresca didn’t seem to suggest the Blues were unaware and instead offered a different explanation for his absence.
“The reason why is because yesterday in the game preparation he felt something, nothing important, but with Liam Delap already out we did not want to take a risk,” he said as quoted by BBC Sport.
“So tonight we give Ty [George] and Jamie a chance.”
Guiu is still waiting for his first minutes since being recalled from his loan at Sunderland, and that opportunity could come against Brighton on Saturday.
Liam Delap’s injury has left Chelsea struggling for depth at centre forward, with there now increased pressure on Joao Pedro to stay fit.
Chelsea recalled Guiu but he’s yet to be given a chance by Maresca, who seems to prefer using George, despite the academy graduate almost joining Fulham on deadline day.

Guiu only made three Premier League appearances last season, although he did miss the majority of the second half of the season through injury.
However, he’s fit and ready to go, and it will be interesting to see how many opportunities Maresca decides to give him.
