It’s a real low point for Chelsea tonight after the Blues were beaten at Brighton in the Premier League to make it five defeats in a row in that competition.

Liam Rosenior has defended his players by and large, but tonight he didn’t hold back, perhaps knowing that the end is nigh. He tried to take some accountability, but also admitted that he didn’t see anything close to an acceptable level from his group.

Rosenior tells his players to look in the mirror after defeat

“[We lacked] in the basics, in the pride that you should have in wearing the shirt, that was unacceptable. I’ve defended the players and I am accountable. I’ve always said that,” a furious Rosenior said post game.

“After tonight, I think the players as well need to have a look in the mirror for what they put in. You can talk about tactics, tactics come after the basics. Having more courage to play, winning duels, winning headers, tackles, conceding terrible goals. That was an unacceptable performance tonight.”

He’s not wrong. It was utterly pathetic from the players out there, regardless of the blame you put on Rosenior himself.

In other news…

On Sky Sports, Gary Cahill agreed with Rosenior, saying players had “let him down.”

The stats from the game which Cahill mentions are truly awful – you can see some of them here.
