Swansea City have been set aside as an option for Valencia attacking midfielder Andre Almeida after no developments on Thursday.

Valencia agreed a fee with Swansea to sell the Portuguese, but he dug his heels in over joining the Championship side on a permanent basis.

Almeida was only prepared to consider joining Swansea on loan, however Valencia were desperate to sell and even kept him out of training to try to push through a move.

The attacking midfielder did not change his stance and it now appears that any move to Swansea for Almeida is off the table at the moment.

According to Spanish journalist Nacho Sanchis, ‘the Swansea option is set aside’ as Thursday was the last day for a response.

La Liga side Celta Vigo are in talks with Almeida’s camp over a possible move this summer, but they have yet to take the step of contacting Valencia.

Almeida has now returned to team training with Valencia as he awaits developments on his future.

It remains to be seen if Swansea might make another attempt to sign Almeida and convince him about a move to Wales before the end of the window.

Valencia remain keen to offload him to make space for new signings and what terms Celta Vigo might offer for the Portuguese is unclear.

Almeida, who has been capped by Portugal through to Under-21 level, was signed by Valencia from Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes in 2022, with €7.5m forked out to take him to the Mestalla.

Swansea are due to kick off competitive action on Saturday when they play Birmingham City
