Leicester City visit Burton Albion today for their third pre-season friendly, a test that could shape Russell Martin's early selections.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, minutes have been shared evenly across two squads, and today's game will again be split into four 30-minute spells. City then head to Spain for two fixtures before a League One opener at Notts County in four weeks.
Academy graduate Bade Aluko has started both games at right-back and looks a leading contender after Ricardo Pereira's exit. He has impressed in and out of possession, stepping inside to overload midfield, and a calm display today would ease doubts.
Oliver Skipp, a £20m 2024 signing from Tottenham, struggled at Northampton but impressed in the 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers as the screening No.6 against League Two opposition. He is contesting the role with Hamza Choudhury, Louis Page and Sammy Braybrooke. Middlesbrough were open to signing him earlier this summer, and if he stays he could be important.
Conor Chaplin is set for his first outing since signing a three-year deal at the King Power Stadium. He scored 26 League One goals for Ipswich Town the last time he played at this level, while last season was quieter at Portsmouth, and at 29 he may suit a roaming No.10 role.
