Arsenal were recently linked with Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, but Portuguese outlet Record has dismissed the story.

They claim ‘the truth is’ that the Gunners have not approached Porto or held any exploratory talks with the player’s agents over a transfer.

The 20-year-old is only focused on his club and country. Aghehowa made his debut for Spain in November last year and could be handed another call-up.

Arsenal unlikely to pursue deal for Aghehowa

The Spanish striker signed for Porto from Atletico Madrid for £12.6 million last summer, and he could be sold for around £42m.

Aghehowa has made a good impression for the Portuguese outfit with 20 goals and three assists, but his playing style is unlikely to suit manager Mikel Arteta.

He is more of a traditional striker who relies on his positioning. Aghehowa has won just 39 percent of his ground and aerial duels and lacks proper ball control.

Arteta prefers to work with modern strikers who are more comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Aghehowa has plenty of room for development, but Arsenal need a ready-made striker who can seamlessly adapt to the manager’s tactical formation.

Alexander Isak seems the perfect fit for the Gunners, but they may struggle to sign him unless Newcastle United miss out on the Champions League.

Arsenal may still need to make a nine-figure bid to persuade the Magpies into a sale.
