The wait is over for FC Bayern. Jamal Musiala is about to make his comeback and will be part of the Munich matchday squad for the Bundesliga top game against RB Leipzig. For the 22-year-old, this marks the end of a months-long period of suffering that has accompanied the record champions both athletically and emotionally
Musiala suffered a fractured fibula at the Club World Cup on 5 July 2025 and has been out for 195 days since then – an injury that not only brought the attacking player’s plans for the season to an abrupt halt, but also had a lasting impact on FC Bayern’s plans. For more than half a year, Munich were missing one of their most creative and decisive players
Musiala has been working intensively on his comeback over the past few weeks, gradually building up his training, increasing his workload and integrating tackles. The next milestone has now been reached. As Vincent Kompany explained at the matchday press conference ahead of the clash with RB Leipzig, the international is on the verge of returning to the squad. „If everything goes well today, he’ll be in the squad. That’s a great thing,“ said the Bayern coach
When asked about his physical and mental condition, Kompany stressed that Musiala had coped very well with the long time out: „I had every confidence that he would get better. You always have to give the lads confidence that it’s not a step back, but sometimes a step forward. He radiates a lot of positive energy. At the moment, even the little things are great. You appreciate everything much more.“

Despite the anticipation, it is clear that Bayern will not be rushing into anything with Musiala. After such a long injury lay-off, a cautious build-up is imperative. A starting appearance against Leipzig is therefore out of the question. Instead, the attacking player will be carefully reintroduced to match action
The focus is on getting Musiala used to playing in matches again, collecting minutes and regaining his feel for the pace and rhythm of the game. Short substitute appearances, controlled workloads and close coordination with the medical department are the main focus here. FC Bayern do not want to take any risks – the 22-year-old is too valuable for the coming weeks and months
Regardless of how long he plays against Leipzig, Musiala’s return sends out an enormous signal. The attacking player is regarded as one of the key players in Vincent Kompany’s system and adds an extra creative dimension to Munich’s game. His dribbling, game intelligence and unpredictability can decide games – especially against deep-lying opponents or in close duels on the international stage
For Kompany, Musiala’s comeback also means more flexibility in attack, allowing the Bayern coach to react more variably, manage pressure better and call on a player who can make the difference without necessarily having to be on the pitch for 90 minutes.
