Liam Rosenior was asked about Trevoh Chalobah today, and whether he saw him as a long term partner to Levi Colwill.

He didn’t answer the question, but he did take the chance to praise his defender:

“Trevoh, the way he’s playing, I said to the players I will gauge everything, not based on what’s happened before me but what I see now,” Rosenior replied.

“I’ll only speak on what I’m seeing now. Trevoh has been one of our brightest spots in terms of his performances, in terms of what he understands. What we want, not just on the pitch or tactically, in terms of the culture, in terms of what he gives the group. He loves this club. He understands what it takes to win and he’s made a fantastic impression on me and my staff so far.

Rosenior’s Chalobah opinion will only have so much sway

That’s all great stuff, and we love to hear some Chalobah appreciation. But we all know the reality – it’s far beyond Rosenior’s control. When we’ve got 8 or 9 central defenders on the books next summer, most of them signed by the sporting directors, who’s going to get the boot?

Of course it will be the home grown, pure profit Chalobah who is sold off, no matter how well he plays or how much Rosenior likes him.

In other news…

Chelsea’s lack of creativity at the moment is a problem. They can often score a goal when they need to, but it doesn’t usually come from dangerous, consistent attacking moves. Their lack of consistency in that department was criticised by podcasters.

Alejandro Garnacho is someone you might look for as a player to make things happen – but he’s in dreadful form. Liam Rosenior had to defend him in today’s press conference, and even promised him more minutes.
